ICE selects Unit4 Business World On! and Sabre™ CentralCommand® for integration, flexibility and reporting capabilities

Unit4, a fast growing leader in enterprise applications for service-centric organizations, announced today that International Cruise & Excursions, Inc. (ICE) has selected Unit4 Business World On! and Sabre™ CentralCommand® powered by Business World to replace its legacy technology solution and improve its large-scale, global reconciliation efficiencies.

ICE has become one of the leading providers of travel and leisure-based loyalty solutions to large-scale membership markets, associations, and affinity groups worldwide. ICE’s unique and powerful relationships across the travel industry, its proprietary technology solutions, web-based marketing and yield tools, coupled with its state-of-the-art international call center operations provide its partners with fully branded cruise and vacation fulfilment services as well as customized marketing solutions. Its lifestyle products include brand name hotel and resort partners, cruise lines, vacation ownership firms, and tour providers.

Under the terms of the agreement announced today, ICE will adopt and utilize Unit4 Business World On! and Sabre™ CentralCommand® powered by Business World, to improve efficiencies and offer a simplified solution for reconciliation in handling multi-tiered currency values and membership levels, in addition to a complex array of processes that help manage membership points and vacation ownership weeks.  

“Our technology roadmap has a goal of integrating our many in-house systems with Business World On! and Sabre™ CentralCommand®,” said Coleman Gardner, Vice President of Financial Technology at ICE. “We wanted the solution that would provide us the basic requirements of a financial package, but also one to provide ICE with value-added features that we could incorporate in the future. We were sold by the ease of management for the users, who will no longer require the IT department in order to make changes. Another crucial requirement is integration with global distribution systems. Additionally, Unit4’s procurement and excellent reporting and budget tools will help us make valuable improvements through deeper insight into our business.”

ICE carved out its own niche industry, utilizing non-monetary currency (points and memberships) that require extensive reconciliation. Having started within the cruise industry, ICE has expanded throughout the travel and leisure industry, adding hundreds of partners and services that all require high attention to detail. “As we’ve grown, it’s become more complex to manage. It’s important to build a system that improves our ability to react to any given issue across the entire landscape of our business operations and processes,” Gardner says.

Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, ICE has service centers in the United States, Portugal, Mexico, Australia, United Kingdom and Singapore. It requires multi-currency functionality and consolidation of multiple accounts on a global scale.

The ability to integrate with Unit4’s open APIs is important to the ICE team in order to allow its multiple bespoke IT solutions to work seamlessly and automate various aspects of the work. Gardner notes that company accountants can “now focus on analysis and decision making, rather than data entry and month-end closes.”
