University of Aberdeen looks to Unit4 Student Management to improve student experience

Unit4, a fast growing leader in enterprise applications for service organisations, today announced the University of Aberdeen is to roll out Unit4 Student Management, on the Microsoft Azure Cloud, to over 16,000 students and staff. It is expected the solution will improve the experience for enquirers and applicants, stimulate a growth in the number of applicants, improve student retention rates and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of student operations.

Unit4 Student Management will support a truly digital campus, providing students and staff with intuitive technology to manage University life from enquiry to alumni. Using a device of their choice students will be able to engage with the University on anything from enquiries and applications to degree progression and graduation. The resilience and connectivity of the Microsoft Azure Cloud, where all data will be stored, will give the University instant, easier access to more accurate and reliable information on which to base planning, decision making and student interaction; University staff will also have a 360-degree view of the student lifecycle to improve student success.

The project is directly aligned to two of the University’s six mission statements in its 2015-2020 plan:

  • To be one of the world’s top seats of teaching and learning, providing a standout personalised student experience of the highest quality in an international context.
  • To build an integrated, collaborative and sustainable physical and digital infrastructure to underpin the University’s ambition.

“Unit4 Student Management will deliver a service to help the University stand out from other institutions,” said Professor Peter McGeorge, Vice-Principal for Learning and Teaching at the University of Aberdeen. “This new technology will enable potential and enrolled students to interact with timely, personalised information no matter where they are in the world. Their contact with the University will benefit from the same easy-to-use digital experience they get outside of University with social media and other retailers. By removing the burden of paper work, and delivering a digital experience, they can focus on learning. Additionally, University staff will have the tools they need to better understand and deliver student-focussed, personalised support.”

As part of its business transformation programme, the University of Aberdeen already uses Unit4 Business World Finance.

Unit4 will exhibit at booth 1311 at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference 2016 in Anaheim, California, October 26-27.
