Unit4, a leader in administrative systems for higher education institutes, today announced that Vancouver Island University (VIU) and Selkirk College have selected Unit4 Student Management running on the Microsoft Azure cloud to replace their legacy student systems. Both institutions will also be switching to Unit4 Business World, Unit4’s flagship ERP system to manage their finance and HR payroll functions.
VIU is a degree-granting institution in British Columbia with about 16,000 full- and part-time students, and Selkirk College is a rural college currently serving about 2,600 full-time students in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia. Both institutions were running on the same homegrown legacy administrative systems, and had begun to experience similar challenges. Their decision to switch to Unit4 comes after a vigorous and extensive vendor selection process, which VIU and Selkirk undertook in partnership in order to cut costs and to benefit from knowledge sharing.
“We selected Unit4 Student Management and Unit4 Business World for its high degree of configurability, student-centric design with built-in mobile capabilities, the ability to instantaneously share information across departments, as well as the solution’s extensive communications and workflow capabilities,” says Elfie Smith, Chief Transformation and Project Director at VIU. “Going through the evaluation process with Selkirk College helped us to be more thorough in our selection than either of us could have been on our own, and we’re more confident in Unit4’s technology and support offerings because of it.”
“During our joint selection process, thousands of individual business requirements were identified and ranked by priority as part of a very detailed systems evaluation,” says Liana Zwick, project transformation lead at Selkirk College. “We had very specific requests, but all of the challenging things we put forward were met head-on with confidence and a feeling of partnership from Unit4.”
Unit4 Student Management and Unit4 Business World will enable the institutions’ staff and faculty to work as an integrated team across departments to benefit the student experience; extend access to programs and services; enable more proactive communication strategies; improve enrollment efficiency and enable effective measuring and reporting; as well as ensure the sustainability of the institution through effective use of finances and resources.
