Short’s Travel Brings Commission Collection In House and Increases Revenue by 15%

Award-winning use of ERP Travel Solution boosts collections and improves service levels

Victoria, BC and Manchester, NH,

Creating an in-house, easily managed system to invoice, collect and manage hotel service fees boosted Short’s Travel Management’s hotel commissions by 15% this year. Short’s Controller Cheryl Bergman says in a video released today that in addition to saving on outsourcing costs and increasing revenue, her company’s service levels have increased immeasurably.

“One of the biggest challenges facing the travel industry is the collection and reconciliation of commissions,” Bergman says. “Coupled with the downward pressure on fees, we are always looking for the economies of scale to realize savings. In addition to increasing our revenue, we’re also saving $12,000 annually by bringing this function in-house. Just as important, we now host our own data and can produce accurate reports and answer questions about commissions almost instantly.”

Short’s Travel Management took home the crystal from the UNIT4 Innovation Awards, earning the trophy for best use of Sabre® CentralCommand™ with Agresso for 2014. Along with Short’s Travel, other 2014 travel sector finalists were BCD Travel and Travel Leaders Group. Each company submitted its own project for consideration, outlining innovative use, returns on investment and improvements to business. UNIT4 has posted an infographic on its website to show the problems solved by these projects and the outcomes for each one.

“We chose Short’s Travel as the Innovation Award winner this year based on the sustainable return on investment, in both financial and service gains,” says Shelley Zapp, CEO of UNIT4 Business Software. “This project incorporates streamlined data handling, reliable reporting to customers, decreased costs and increased revenue. Two Short’s staff members were able to implement this process within three months and required minimal support from our travel solutions team.”
