Public Sector Palooza a Resounding Success

Posted by  Jessica Tatlow

Our office has been a little quieter over the past week with various and sundry public sector trade shows under our belts and everyone back to their routines. Our team is back, invigorated by the stimulating conversations and inspirational learning they have experienced.

MISA – The Internet of Things

From the trade show floor to Casino night, it was wonderful to visit with acquaintances and talk to many of the municipal information systems officers in attendance. Highlights included keynote addresses by Hailey Wickenheiser, Canada’s most golden Olympic athlete, and Canadaland journalist, Jesse Brown. If you aren’t already a member of MISA (which spans across Canada), you should definitely take a look at one of their chapters as they promote and provide leadership in the effective use of municipal information systems and technologies to provide better and more cost-effective services to municipal taxpayers and clients. We were honored to receive the MISA certificate of appreciation in London, Ontario last week – Thank you MISA Ontario.

GFOA Alberta – Regional Collaboration for a Better Future

Alberto and I arrived in Edmonton on a beautiful, sunny Prairie day after a scenic flight over the Rockies. After setting up the newly re-branded Unit4 booth, we kicked the conference off right with a networking reception and snacks.

Day two held more excitement for us when the crowd broke into line dancing at the Conference gala and we learned how to party like Albertans, to the tune of Rule of Nines, with a delicious dinner Alberta beef. We had great conversations with customers and new acquaintances. The camaraderie and friendship that spans Alberta’s municipal finance offices heralds good things for regional collaboration and a better future. You can access previous conference materials with your GFOA membership login here.

GFOA BC – Making Communication Shine

Daniel and Ryan represented Unit4 at GFOA in Penticton, and we hear they brought the heat in the GFOA BC Feud game show with teammates, and GFOA show hoppers, William and Jason, from Raymond James Ltd. They also got to meet celebrated Canadian Paralympian and spinal cord injury philanthropist Rick Hansen and hear his inspirational message of hope and perseverance – we hear a signed copy of his book may be making its way around the office this summer.

GFOA BC is a fun, social conference for us to attend as we get to visit with a lot of customers and answer the oft-repeated “Where’s Beaumont?” (Hint: he’s on a Mediterranean cruise!). GFOA BC has posted all of their course material in their reference materials page so if you haven’t already, please be sure to check it out.

Thanks to everyone we met at these exciting public sector conferences – we look forward to seeing you next year!
