Crazy Lab Days: Where Bold Ideas Shape Customer Value

At Unit4, we believe innovation isn’t a one-time event — it’s an ongoing behaviour that defines the way we work and the way we serve our customers.  

Unit4 Crazy Lab Days (CLDs) is more than just an innovation event. It’s a mindset. It’s about collaboration, creativity, and the courage to explore new ground. It’s an employee platform that enables growth, free invention, and knowledge-sharing across teams.  

Each year, employees spend five months developing concepts that address real customer challenges, with the top five selected to advance to the final stage. Backed by Product & Engineering leadership and with strong support from senior management, these concepts are brought to life.  By blending perspectives and collective wisdom, we build prototypes that are not only imaginative but purposeful — innovative ideas that can later evolve into real technologies and services. Many of these innovations—such as Ed the Manager (Smart Automation Services),   Payroll Navigator, or AIMapping—have gone on to enhance our solutions, improve user experiences, and shape the future of our portfolio. As our CEO Simon Paris says about CLDs, “It’s crowdsourcing and crowd wisdom at its finest.” Crazy Lab Days is where invention meets purpose, where ideas turn into prototypes, and where we truly win together. 

This year, Unit4 proudly celebrates 10 years of Crazy Lab Days. Over the past decade, CLDs has united colleagues from across regions and disciplines, giving them the space and support to transform bold ideas into tangible value for our customers. And this year is extra special — for the first time ever, six teams will advance to Crazy Lab Days Week in Lisbon.  

CLDs start with a simple premise: Every idea matters.  

Whether it’s solving a small daily challenge, tackling a complex problem, or imagining an entirely new approach, we stretch our thinking to see opportunities where others might see obstacles. And who better to tell this story than the participants themselves?
