Building a Holistic People Experience Will Grow Your Business

In my last article, I wrote that companies must give employees the technology to feel empowered, motivated and valued in their careers, with the structure and resources in place to fulfill their potential, while striking a healthy work/life balance.

People can only perform at their best if they receive good quality feedback. If they know where and how they are making the greatest difference, employees can focus their efforts and strengthen their most valuable skills.

Yet according to research among HR teams, only 78% of companies perform any kind of structured staff appraisals – and of those who do, just 38% review employee performance more than once a year. Well-known thought leader in this area, Josh Bersin says: “One might think that with a decade of economic growth and an explosion of technology at work, most employees would be having positive experiences. However, employees are feeling overloaded by their digital tools, they want to spend more time with their families and friends, and they want to focus on health, career and meaning at work. So, there’s still much to work on.”

I believe that in order to guarantee people experiences where every person feels as though they’re treated as an individual with unique ambitions and values, managers need better tools embedded in the flow of work. This approach can deliver an entirely different experience for people in several ways:

  • Create an in the moment ‘credit where it’s due’ environment – By channeling project discussions online through core ERP and a connected talent management tool, praise and learnings happen in real-time related to tangible events.
  •  Review and reward people every day – Giving people a sense of ownership and clear feedback that their contribution is delivering real value to the organization will boost satisfaction and retention in a way you can measure. According to a Gallup study, only a quarter (26%) of employees feel their manager continually helps them to clarify priorities – yet those that do are three times more likely to be engaged at work than colleagues lacking regular progress catch-ups.
  •  Take the pressure off managers and create a more personal experience - Continuous evaluation and feedback provides people with job satisfaction and ensures teams feel trusted, valued and empowered to grow your business.

We have big ambitions to change how people work with core enterprise technology like ERP. Modern cloud systems today can support organizations to nurture employees, to create a day to day work experience that ensures their highest levels of productivity and commitment. ERP will be the prime enabler of “employee experience”. People spend around 80% of their time on day to day activities in these systems. Good employee experience that drives business success is about the day-to-day work, not about HR processes and systems. Modern tools for people engagement combined with core ERP change the game by creating an enterprise-wide data-driven culture. They can understand people and performance better and drive the business forward by acting on real insight.

We acquired the European Talent Management market leader Intuo this year, taking our vision for customers a big leap forward. Creating a thriving environment and a sense of purpose is at Intuo’s core. Intuo’s engagement based performance management offers an alternative for performance management, knowledge sharing and annual engagement surveys. The platform is designed to digitize and optimize every touchpoint between employee and organization, resulting in a tailored employee experience on the one hand, and strategic HR execution on the other. We’re so confident of the value in this we’re offering a 3-month free subscription.

Combined with core ERP built for services organizations, it delivers the powerful holistic people experience that will drive a culture of people and business success.
