About a summer of people and Pride
Posted by Unit4 Communications
Shockingly, there are still 11 countries in which homosexuality is punishable by death and until recently the World Health Organization considered trans-sexuality a mental health disorder.
We’ve been getting involved in Pride events this summer to help change perceptions and drive change towards a fairer, equal and more inclusive world for us all. People, equality, diversity and inclusivity are at the heart of what we stand for as a business. So, we are focused on doing more to encourage everyone to embrace and learn from our differences, as well as our commonalities and to be more accepting and tolerant of each other in our day to day lives.
In Granada, Spain we’ve been displaying rainbow banners, bunting and flags in the offices and handing out bracelets, badges and stickers for people to wear. We also designed a special Pride PowerPoint slide deck, which everyone used for presentations, demos and events during June.
Education has a vital role to play in encouraging greater acceptance and we gave our teams the chance to learn more about the challenges facing LGBTQ+ people. We highlighted the different laws and restrictions that exist around the world thanks to a "Sexual orientation laws in the world - 2019" poster and by taking part in a LGTBIQ+ quiz. Now, everyone is better informed.
Diversity is especially important for our sector. We’re especially interested in cognitive diversity which cuts across all issues of race, gender, age, health, etc. The technology and IT industry has a way to go and we’re keen to drive the change agenda. We’d like to thank our people for taking part and promoting these important issues.
