Like ski lifts, pre-configured software gets you to the top quicker. The skiing remains as amazing as ever!

We recently announced a new service offering based on industry-specific templates designed to speed up time to value for our customer ERP implementations. Based on industry best practices, we give companies a simple way to get started with a system that will deliver great value both instantaneously and over time. It gives organizations the quick start they need. However, I was asked the following question by a few people: ‘Will the software still be flexible enough to meet everybody’s needs without complex customizations at the outset.’

I believe the answer is very simple. Imagine a ski trip without ski lifts. The climb to the top of the mountain would be pretty daunting yet this was normal a few decades ago. Hemingway wrote about this beautifully in his book ‘A Moveable Feast’. Would you want to go skiing at all in the knowledge that it will take you most of a day to get to the top of the mountain to tackle a ski run? Ski-lifts made skiing a better experience: more of the fun, less struggle and pain. That is what our pre-configured software does: it takes away the hassle and complexity.

With industry-specific pre-configured software, you still have the ability to fit the software to your exact needs but don’t have to climb the mountain first – it is being done for you. The skiing is the same great experience – as flexible, go left, right, off-piste, whatever you like, but the way up is far simpler, quicker and altogether more pleasant. That’s the way I see it. Ski-lifts are what some people might call a no-brainer. I like them a lot. You?
